Rankings
Best Cat Food
Every product here is scored on the same criteria: quality of animal protein, fat source, presence of toxic or suspect preservatives, and labelling transparency. No sponsored placements. Products with the highest ingredient quality rank first.
Scores run from 0 to 100. A score above 85 means no detectable risk. Below 50 means the product has structural quality problems. Below 0 means it contains ingredients with proven toxicity in cats.

How the Score Works
Each product starts at 100. Points are deducted for four types of problems:
- Protein quality Is the primary protein source a named animal ingredient? Vague terms like "meat and animal derivatives" lose points.
- Fat source Animal fat is appropriate for obligate carnivores. Plant-only fat sources are penalised.
- Toxic ingredients Propylene glycol, alliums, BHA, BHT, and ethoxyquin each carry specific deductions based on the severity of documented harm.
- Label transparency Undeclared ash, unspecified protein or fat sources, and vague preservative labels reduce the score.
